About A Subsidised Teaching Clinic at The Surrey Institute of Osteopathic Medicine

The SIOM clinic is a teaching facility for students of osteopathy, treatment is carried out by senior students studying a four year degree in Osteopathic Medicine. Treatment is closely supervised by clinic tutors who are registered osteopaths. Our costs are roughly half that of commercial clinics. We also offer specialist mother and baby clinics, and sports injuries clinics. When you visit the teaching clinic for the first time your student practitioner will ask detailed questions regarding your presenting complaint and general health, prior to a thorough examination. You will normally be asked to remove some of your clothing before being asked to perform some simple movements. You may request to be treated by a practitioner of the same sex. The student osteopath will use many of the diagnostic procedures used in conventional medicine. The body’s tissues will also be assessed with the use of a highly developed sense of touch (palpation). These procedures will identify and points of weakness or excessive strain in the tissues of the body. If necessary the treatment team may request further diagnostic tests, e.g. X-rays or MRIs prior to making their diagnosis. If you are currently taking any medication or have in your possession recent medical images, please bring these with you to the consultation. SIOM is located within Nescot College, on the Reigate Road in Ewell (A254). Turn off at Junction 8 of the M25, or if coming from the A3 turn off at Tolworth Junction. There is ample parking on site. We are five minutes’ walk from Ewell East Train Station.
