About Skiddaw Croft B&B
Skiddaw Croft B&B is an Edwardian era house located in the peaceful village of Portinscale on the Northwest shores of Derwentwater. It is only a short 20-minute walk/3 minute drive from the centre of the market town of Keswick. Since the beginning of 2017 it has been ranked number 1 of 9 B&Bs in Portinscale on Tripadvisor, 5* on Google Reviews and 9.9/10 on bookingcom.
There are 6 bright, comfortable rooms with king-size, double, family/twin and single options. Four have en-suite facilities and the two single rooms have a basin in the room and share a shower/wc.
All rooms have Fell views and the rooms at the front of the house also have stunning lake views towards Derwentwater. There is a comfortable guest lounge at the heart of the house, which is the perfect place for reading, relaxing or planning your next walk.
Delicious, freshly cooked breakfasts with plenty of choices are made from locally sourced produce (whenever possible). Vegetarian and gluten free options available. Free range eggs are sourced from a local farm and the meat from the local butcher in Keswick.
Anyone arriving during normal check-in times (3pm-8pm) will be offered a welcome drink and home made cake. You can leave your car in the car park and explore the area by cycle, walks or local bus. Both Derwentwater Marina and Nichol End Marine are only minutes away, both offering a wide variety of activities such as sailing, kayaking and paddle boarding, as well as boat hire and tuition. Or, take the launch to nearby Keswick for Theatre by the Lake or walk to the town via the West side of the Lake for the Moot Hall market every Thursday and Saturday. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants in Keswick.
Slightly further afield you’ll find Castlerigg Stone Circle, Honister Slate Mine and The Railway Path to Threlkeld. Head to Whinlatter Forest for rare wildlife, mountain biking and the GoApe centre for climbing and forest Segway activities.
Steve and Sue own Skiddaw Croft B&B. Prior to running the B&B they worked for the Police and NHS respectively.
