About Moorland Hotel, Haytor
Set at the base of Haytor on Dartmoor, The Moorland Hotel boasts 11 acres of landscaped grounds, paddocks and woodland. Wild ponies are often found grazing nearby and the open expanse of the moor provides adventurous walking and challenging cycling along with breath taking views. Steeped in history, The Moorland Hotel saw Agatha Christie write her very first novel over a two week stay, The Mysterious Affair at Styles. Sir Tommy Flowers visited regularly after a demanding career at Bletchley Park during WWII, where he invented the Colossus machine (the worlds first programmable computer) to help solve encrypted German messages. Ava Gardner, Robert Taylor and Mel Ferrer et al have also been guests whilst the hotel stable horses were recruited to star in the film ‘Knights of The Round Table’ and the life-sized set of Camelot was erected at Haytor.
The Moorland Hotel is now fully open follow its first refurbishment since at 1960. With 36 luxurious bedrooms available for bookings.
