Chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) with relapsing and remitting symptoms is called Crohn's disease. The small intestine, colon, or both may become thickened and ulcerated as a result, giving the inflammatory gut a cobblestone-like appearance. Abdominal discomfort and watery diarrhea are the most typical signs of Crohn's disease. People with Crohn's disease also frequently lose weight because they steer clear of meals out of concern that it would give them stomach discomfort. In the perineal area, skin tags and fissures appear in about half of the patients.
Untreated Crohn's disease increases the likelihood of developing certain cancers and can result in bleeding, intestinal inflammation, and other potentially fatal complications. Given that this illness is chronic, a multidisciplinary management strategy is required. Budesonide is the preferred medication when the condition is being treated with corticosteroids to minimize inflammation. For maintenance, immunosuppressive medicine is used. Surgery to remove the colon can be required if the condition worsens and stops responding to standard medical treatment.
