Nestled close to the banks of the River Trent, opposite the stunning 12th century Newark Castle, you will find The Danube Restaurant and Café. Named after the second longest river in Europe which runs through four Central and Eastern European capitals, The Danube Restaurant serves home-cooked food from Central and Eastern Europe cooked using only the finest locally sourced ingredients.
Behind the sea blue frontage, the Danube Restaurant is an oasis of calm that boasts the very best view of the beautiful castle. The team at Danube welcomes all party sizes with open arms including families with young children, private hire functions and business meetings and the customer service is always excellent.
The Danube Restaurant first opened in March 2012 and has quickly become one of the most popular dining destinations in the area. Danube was awarded Certificates of Excellence from TripAdvisor in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
Danube opens during the day from Tuesday to Saturday 10.00 until 15.30 (the last food order). A value for money set lunch is available at £10.95/person for two courses. In the evenings (Tuesday – Saturday, 18.00 – 21.30 the last order), the indulgent a la carte menu offers a wide range of dishes, all cooked on the premises. The food served at Danube is hearty, honest, delicious, good value for money and definitely not pretentious. Tasty vegetarian options and gluten-free dishes are also available and the chefs are always happy to create new dishes to meet various customers’ dietary requirements. Those with a sweet tooth will not be disappointed come dessert time, just make sure you have enough room left to fully enjoy the decadent desserts on offer. During evenings a set menu is also available at £15.00/person for two courses and £18.50/person for three courses
The restaurant is open for Sunday lunch from 12.00 until 15.00. The Sunday lunch menu is priced at £ 15 for two courses, with many items on offer.
The restaurant is also fully-licensed and offers a great range of German beers as well as wines and spirits from the Danube region, all of which complement the food perfectly.
