The National Treatment Agency (NTA) is an executive agency of the United Kingdom's Department of Health. The agency was established in 2001 to improve the availability, quality and effectiveness of drug treatment services in England. It works with other organizations to ensure that drug users have access to effective treatment, support and care services.

The NTA is responsible for developing national standards for drug treatment services and monitoring their implementation. It also works with local drug partnerships to make sure that drug treatment services meet the needs of local communities. The agency sets national standards for commissioning and delivering services, as well as ensuring that these are implemented locally. It also provides advice on improving access to drug treatment services, and works with other organizations to help reduce drug-related crime.

The NTA works closely with a range of partners, including local authorities, primary care trusts (PCTs), voluntary sector providers and clinical commissioning groups (CCGs). It also works with criminal justice agencies such as the Police and Probation Service, helping them refer individuals into treatment where appropriate. In addition, it helps build capacity within the voluntary sector by providing training and support to enable them to develop effective services.

The NTA has developed a range of resources aimed at supporting professionals working in the field of substance misuse including; guidance documents; toolkits; workshops; conferences; and research materials. These help practitioners stay up-to-date with current knowledge in the field, as well as develop skills needed to provide good quality care for those affected by substance misuse issues.

The National Treatment Agency is an important part of the UK government’s efforts to tackle substance misuse problems across England. By providing advice, guidance and support for those involved in delivering care for those affected by substance misuse issues, it helps ensure people receive high quality care when they need it most.
